LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The San Diego swimming and diving team completed the first day of the UNLV Winter Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday. Eight Aztecs competed in final heats in nine events.
Rosalie Raymond led SDSU with a 10th-place finish in the 500 freestyle. The freshman set a season-best time in the event with a time of 5 minutes, 6.45 seconds, almost four seconds faster than her previous best time (5:10.43) of the year.
Junior Kimberlee Frith won the 500 free C-Final in a team-best clocking of 5:02.17 to finish 17th overall. She also added a 19th-place finish in the 50 free (24.91).
Other impressive individual performances went to freshman Lizette Patterson (13th place, 2:12.49) and junior Sarah Davis (18th, 2:12.27) in the 200 individual medley, and junior Emily Parker in the 500 free (15th, 5:11.70).
The 200 free relay quartet of seniors Samantha Peters and Emily Schmied, freshman Kendal Twilling and Frith set a season-best clocking of 1:40.68 to finish 12th.
The Aztecs will be back in the pool on Sunday, with the preliminary heats set to begin at 10 a.m., while the finals are slated for a 5 p.m. start.
