SAN DIEGO (AP) - Marcus Slaughter had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead San Diego State to an 88-77 victory over Point Loma Nazarene Saturday night.
Brandon Heath had 20 points for San Diego State (4-2) and Kyle Spain added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Point Loma (5-2) had a four-game winning streak snapped.
The Sea Lions jumped out to an 18-9 lead to start the game. They hit seven of their first eight 3-point attempts and trailed by just four, 46-42, at the half.
Matt Benson led Point Loma with 21 points while John Clarke had 16 and Finis Jones 14.
Slaughter had several key baskets in the second half, including a three-point play with five minutes left that gave the Aztecs an 80-72 lead after Point Loma has closed to within five at 77-72.
San Diego State won the rebounding battle 47-31 and connected on 24 of 26 free throws.
It was the first meeting in 40 years between the two San Diego-area schools.
