SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State swimming and diving team will walk in The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race For the Cure on Nov. 6 at 8 a.m. One of the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, the Sunday event will take place in Balboa Park.

Nancy Brinker established The Susan G. Komen Foundation in 1982 in memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. Breast cancer survivors will be wearing pink caps, buttons or t-shirts to celebrate their survivorship.

"We're really excited to be supporting this great cause," said head coach Deena Schmidt. "I was diagnosed with cancer last August and it not only affected me, but my athletes and the whole athletic department too."

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group who are chip timed, along with a Komen Race for the Cure t-shirt to all entrants. There will also be an incentivised pledge program with gifts for fund raisers.

The next Aztec home swimming and diving meet will be Nov. 15 at the Ray and Joan Croc Community Center.
