LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Sergio Aguayo connected on his second game-winning field goal of the year, making a career best 52-yarder with 9 seconds to play in a 13-10 victory over San Diego State at Sam Boyd Stadium Saturday.

Aguayo added another 52-yarder with 5:05 left in the game and the Rebels limited San Diego State to 140 yards of offense in winning their first Mountain West Conference game in three attempts. Aguayo's 41-yarder in overtime Sept. 10 gave the Rebels a 34-31 win against visiting Idaho.

San Diego State lost top rusher Lynell Hamilton to a strained left quad in the second quarter, and Brandon Bornes replaced the Doak Walker Award candidate with a team-leading 33 yards on 11 carries.

Without Hamilton in the backfield, however, the Aztecs only managed 34 yards on 35 attempts. Aztecs quarterback Kevin OConnell was intercepted three times, completing 14-of-28 passes for 106 yards.

UNLV (2-4, 1-2) also struggled offensively, committing three turnovers and only gaining 61 yards in the second half. The two teams combined for 381 yards.

San Diego States defense struck first when linebacker Joe Martin intercepted a Jarrod Jackson pass and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown, giving the Aztecs a 7-0 lead with 5:17 left in the second quarter.

UNLV responded with a 5-yard scoring run from JaJa Riley, capping a six-play, 53-yard drive to tie the game 2:26 before halftime. Rileys touchdown followed a Jackson to Greg Estandia 30-yard completion on third down.

The Aztecs (2-4, 1-2) used another turnover in taking the lead late in the third quarter. Freddy Keiahos fumble recovery on a muffed option attempt set up a 22-yard Garrett Palmer field goal. Keiaho returned the fumble 39 yards to the UNLV 1-yard line, but the Aztecs lost four yards on three tries at the end zone.

Erick Jackson led UNLV with 109 yards on 29 attempts, supplementing a passing game that only accounted for 88 yards. Estandia had four catches for 61 yards.
