SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) opened the season with a straight-set victory Monday at the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. Dickhardt, ranked No. 75 nationally, disposed of Ohio State's Scott Green 6-4, 7-6 at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Meanwhile, Dickhardt's teammate, junior Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany), fell to 73rd-ranked Matt Roberts of Arkansas 7-5, 6-1.

The singles tournament continues Tuesday with the second round, while doubles action also gets underway Tuesday. The Aztec duo of Dickhardt and Groh will face Jiri Spousta and John Kellert of Missouri State. Both the singles and doubles qualifying tournament fields conclude Wednesday with the main draws beginning Thursday and running through Sunday.

The Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Tennis Championships are the first of three collegiate tournaments which comprise the men's grand slam tournament along with the ITA Indoor Championships in November and the NCAA championships next May.
