SAN DIEGO - Four San Diego State water polo student-athletes, including the team as a whole, were recognized by the American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) for their academic achievements for the 2004-05 academic year. The athlete awards are broken up into three teams by grade point average (GPA), outstanding (3.71-4.00), superior (3.41-3.70) and excellent (3.20-3.40), while the team honor is given to those squads with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and greater.

Monica DeRosier (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS), a liberal studies major, made her way onto the AWPCA's Outstanding Team with a GPA of 3.72. She is only the third Aztec and first since Nicole Morasky in 2000, to be named to the Outstanding Team. This marks the third time DeRosier has been recognized by the AWPCA.

Becca Ur (Lompoc, Calif./Cabrillo HS), a psychology major, was selected to the Superior Team with a GPA of 3.69. Ur is the first freshman since DeRosier accomplished the feat in 2002 to be named to the AWPCA all-academic team. The freshman is also the first Aztec to earn a spot on the Superior Team since the 2003 team had three honored (DeRosier, Becky Sensney, Katelyn Schlactus) .

Ashley Reta (Yorba Linda, Calif./El Dorado HS) and Cia Cobb (Yorba Linda, Calif./Long Beach CC) were the final two Aztecs honored by the AWPCA. The pair earned their way onto the Excellent Team after Reta turned in a GPA of 3.37 and Cobb posted a 3.31 GPA. Both are first-time honorees and are the 10th and 11th SDSU Excellent Team selections since 1998.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honored all four student-athletes in June for their academic achievements as well.

As a team, SDSU recorded a team GPA of 3.06, third best among MPSF schools and 26th-best among all collegiate water polo programs.

The Aztecs finished the 2005 campaign ranked No. 11 in the country.
