SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team is turning it up a notch this season, boosting its schedule to a national caliber that might be its most difficult in school history.

The schedule includes two tournaments in Hawaii as well as three tournaments hosted by hosted by Pac-10 schools, USC, Arizona State and Stanford. Head Coach Ryan Donovan said he wanted to strengthen the schedule this season to help both recruiting and to play the best teams in the nation all season long.

"This is the best schedule that we've had since the program came back in the early 90's," Donovan said. "We're trying to raise the bar with recruiting and you need to compete against the best teams consistently for the whole year."

Donovan said making two trips to Hawaii and the Pac-10 tournaments should draw attention to recruits.

"Recruits want to know what kind of teams you'll be playing against and the only way to get nationally ranked is to play against the best," Donovan said.

The fall campaign begins with the William H. Tucker tournament, September 16 and 17 in Albuquerque, N.M.
