LOS ANGELES - Junior Nicole Carmier took third of 38 competitors in the 800-meter run to lead the San Diego State track and field team at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.

Carmier was the top collegiate finisher with a NCAA regional qualifying and personal-best time of 2 minutes, 8.50 seconds. The 2004 Olympic trials fifth-place finisher, Frances Santin, won the event in 2:03.08.

Two other Aztecs - sophomore Manhattan College transfer Lisa Naucler (seventh place, 2:10.32) and sophomore Nicole Rothert (24th, 2:19.89) - set personal-best times in the 800, while sophomore Ali Baker was 20th in the 1,500 with a 10-second personal-best time of 4:52.23.

SDSU heads to Fort Collins, Colo., next week to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships, beginning May 11 and running through May 14.
