Heron Finishes Sixth in 100-Hurdles for Aztecs at West Regional

EUGENE, Ore. - San Diego State's Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2005 NCAA Track & Field West Regional on Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs finished 16th in the meet with 11 points. Stanford won the regional with 110.50 points.

Heron, a senior, finished in 13.40 seconds, just .09 behind the fifth-place finisher (Ashley Lodree of Washington) and a spot in the NCAA Championships. Virginia Powell of Southern California won the event in 12.81.

Junior Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) was the only other Aztec to compete on Saturday, but failed to clear a height in the high jump.

Shayla Balentine (Los Osos, Calif.) will compete in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships, held June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
