EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Shayla Balentine (Los Osos, Calif.) qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday with a second-place jump of 13 feet, 3 3/4 inches to lead the San Diego State track and field team at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore.

Washington's Kate Soma won the event (13-7 3/4), which featured 31 competitors, while the Aztecs' Monica Pacas was 19th (12-0).

Senior Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) qualified for Saturday's final in the 100-hurdles, clocking a season-best non-wind-aided time of 13.37 seconds. The time is the eighth-fastest time ever recorded by a SDSU student-athlete. Heron also competed in the 400-hurdles, placing ninth (1:02.38).

Junior Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) finished 12th of 19 runners in the 800 with a time of 2:09.63.

The final day of the NCAA West Regional will conclude tomorrow.
