SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball head coach Beth Burns announced the signing Friday of 6-3 forward Jana Heinrich (Chemnitz, Germany) to a national letter of intent. Heinrich is Burns' second recruit since taking over the program in early April.

"We are extremely excited to have Jana Heinrich at San Diego State," Burns said. "At 6-3, she has great length, runs the floor extremely well and can knock down a three-point shot. She will be an excellent complement in the front court to recent signee Desiree Johnson.

"The big assist on Jana joining Aztec basketball goes to assistant coach Jualeah Woods. She used her contacts overseas to discover a terrific player, who will bring an immediate impact to our team."

Heinrich will graduate from Sportgymnasium in Germany this spring and will be a freshman pursuing a degree in international business at SDSU in the fall. She is currently a member of the German under-20 national team that has qualified to compete in the European championships in July in Czechoslovakia.

Heinrich is the fifth player (second under Burns) to sign with the Aztecs and will join Johnson (Oahu, Hawaii) and incoming freshmen Lasandra Dixon (Azusa, Calif.), Audrey Green (San Marcos, Calif.) and Tamika Lipford (Oceanside, Calif.) on campus later this year.
