Sophomore Janine Polischuk (Regina, Saskatchewan) finished in third place in the heptathlon Thursday at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Track & Field Championships in Fort Collins, Colo. Polischuk, who improved one spot in the second day of competition, posted a NCAA provisional qualifying total of 5,050 points.
Polischuk competed in the long jump (17 feet, 10 3/4 inches), javelin (124-6) and the 800-meter run (2:21.75) on Thursday.
On Wednesday, she ran a season-best time in the 100-hurdles (14.51 seconds), and also competed in the high jump (5-1 1/4), shot put (33-4) and 200 (25.97).
Colorado State's Katie Lloyd won the event with 5,141 points. Liis Berendsen of Brigham Young was second (5,056), followed by Polischuk, Colorado State's Cristina Gourdin (4,985) and UNLV's Christine Spence (4,956).
The 2004 Mountain West Conference Track & Field Championships continue with day three action Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
