SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior pitcher Celena Velasquez has been named to the all-Mountain West Conference softball team. It is the third time Velasquez has been on the squad, earning MWC pitcher of the year in 2003 and 2004. She has also been named MWC pitcher of the week 10 times in her career.

Velasquez is 13-12 on the season, and she leads the MWC in ERA (1.16), strikeouts (197), opponent batting average (.170) and saves (6). She is second in the conference in innings pitched (175.2) and fifth in wins.

This season, Velasquez reached numerous milestones for her career. On March 4, she tossed her first career no-hitter against Southern Utah, leading SDSU to a 5-0 win, and on Feb. 25, she set the Aztec school record for strikeouts in a game when she fanned 15 North Carolina batters. She is now third all-time in wins at SDSU with 44 victories, and ranks third in the record books for strikeouts in a season.

SDSU will host the MWC Championship this Thurs. through Sat. The Aztecs will play Colorado State in opening round play Thurs. at 2 p.m.
