NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Senior Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) won two events and junior Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) and freshman Monica Pacas (Atascadero, Calif.) won the high jump and pole vault, respectively, to lead the San Diego State track and field team at the Cal State Northridge meet on Saturday.

"We had many outstanding performances today," assistant coach Rich Fox said. "We are looking forward to improving on these marks and getting better as the season goes on."

Heron, who competed for three seasons at CS Northridge, won the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1 minute, 2.84 seconds. She followed that up with a first-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.08).

Carmier won the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. The jump is tied for seventh on the all-time SDSU list. She also took second in the 800 (2:11.38).

Pacas won the pole vault with a NCAA regional qualifying leap of 12 feet, six inches, a mark which puts her seventh on the all-time SDSU list.

Senior Marie Nilsson (Kil, Sweden) took second in the 3,000 (10:25.56) and third in the 1,500 (4:39.83), while senior Jennifer Greene (San Diego) (triple jump, 37-2 ½), sophomore Lisa Naucler (Ljusdal, Sweden) (1,500, 4:37.94) and sophomore Janine Polischuk (Regina, Saskatchewan) (javelin, 118-8) each took second in their events for the Aztecs.

Freshman Brittany Dudley (Oakland, Calif.) was third in the 200 (25.38) and junior Christal Cuadra (Honolulu) contributed a third-place finish in the 3,000 in a season-best time of 10:32.45.

In relay competition, the team of Dudley, Carmier, Heron and junior Larnie Boyd (Vallejo, Calif.) set a season-best time in the 1,600-meter relay of 3:50.45. The 400-meter relay team also took third, clocking 47.30.

SDSU will travel compete in the Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions on Saturday at 11 a.m.
