SDSU Continues Non-Conference Schedule With Dates Against Michigan and Washington This Week
* After going 1-1 against 12th-ranked Southern California and No. 68 UC Irvine last week, 68th-ranked San Diego State (4-3) takes on two more nationally-ranked squads in No. 28 Michigan and No. 8 Washington this week.
The Aztecs, coming off a 7-0 loss to Southern California on Feb. 23 and a 4-3 win over UC Irvine (Feb. 26), face a Michigan club that is 3-5 on Thursday.
SDSU follows it up with a match against a 9-1 Washington team is coming off of four straight wins and will be playing its second match in two days. The Huskies play at San Diego on March 4.
Following this week's matches, SDSU will continue its homestand with matches against Florida State (March 8), Rice (March 10), Tulsa (March 15) and Ohio State (March 22).
SDSU Back in Action for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships; Host Washington Sunday, Yale on Monday
* The San Diego State men's tennis team (3-2) returns to action this weekend as it participates in the 116th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday with first round matches beginning at 8 a.m. Friday. In the occurrence that draw exceeds 64 teams, play will start on Thursday.
On Sunday, the Aztecs will host Pacific-10 school, Washington (9-2) at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. The 21st-ranked Huskies are coming off a loss to Texas Tech and a win over Oregon this past weekend.
Monday, SDSU will host Yale (2-4), once again, at Fairbanks Ranch. This is the first time in three weeks (vs. Pacific, Feb. 13) that SDSU will play someone other than themselves since last Monday's Fresno State match was postponed due to rain.
SDSU Travels to Northern California for Conference Games at Pacific and California
* After taking 11th place at the UCSB Gaucho 24-Team Invitational, the Aztecs make their way north for the third consecutive week to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games at Pacific on Saturday and California on Sunday. Both games are slated for a noon time start.
SDSU (5-6) is coming off a week in which it faced four nationally-ranked opponents in UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Indiana and Michigan, going 2-2 in those matches. For the weekend, the Aztecs went 3-2 overall, with the other win coming against unranked Marist in the first game of pool play.
Following the two-game trip, SDSU will return home for its first home matches of the year. March 10 will be the first of five games in four days when the Aztecs face UC Irvine. On March 12, SDSU will play No. 1 UCLA and Bucknell and the next day, take on Cal State Northridge and Princeton.
SDSU Rowers Commence Spring Season
* San Diego State races in its first spring regatta Saturday at the Parker Cup Regatta at Mission Bay, in San Diego, Calif. The Aztecs will have six boats competing in six different races. The Novice Eight boat will kick things off at 9:40 a.m., followed by the Novice Four at 9:50 a.m. and the JV Eight at 10:15 a.m. The day will conclude with the Varsity Eight racing at 10:30 a.m., the Lightweight Eight at 11 a.m. and the Varsity Four at 11:10 a.m.
* Loyola Marymount and UC Irvine will compete against the Aztecs in all six races, while UC San Diego and Long Beach State will also participate in the five-team event.
* "This is our first race of the competitive spring season," second-year head coach Jennifer Zebroski said. "This (race) will give us a good gauge to where we are at in our training. We have made a lot of technique changes the last two weeks and have really improved our stroke. We are looking forward to the competition this weekend."
