BOISE, Idaho - Freshmen Brittani Dudley and Sherraine Pencil each set season-best times in the 200 and 400, and two others recorded personal-best marks to lead the San Diego State track and field team on the final day of the Holiday Inn Invitational in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday afternoon. No team scores were kept in the meet, which featured 11 teams.
"We are very pleased with how the team is coming along," assistant coach Jennifer Nanista said. "We showed a lot of heart and they're true competitors."
A day after running the 400-meter leg of the school record setting distance medley relay team (12:13.23), Dudley raced to season-best times of 24.95 (sixth-place) in the 200 and 58.01 (16th) in the 400. In the same events, Pencil took ninth in the 200 (25.20) and 17th in the 400 (58.16).
Two other members of the distance medley team, junior Nicole Carmier and Coastal Carolina transfer Lital Azulay, each recorded personal-best times in their lone individual races. Carmier finished fifth in the 800 with a 2:13.95 clocking and Azulay was third in the 3,000 (10:07.23).
Other notable performances were senior Tori Respass-Parsons in the 60 (seventh, 7.67), sophomore Lisa Naucler in the 800 (seventh, 2:15.75) and the 1,600-meter relay team of Dudley, Carmier, Pencil and junior Jackie Duncan (fifth, 3:51.57).
The Aztecs will have 12 days off until they compete in the 2005 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships from Feb. 24-26 at Colorado Springs, Colo.
