SAN DIEGO STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Steve Fisher:
On The Game:
"It's always more fun when you win, no matter what you're doing. Anyone who has seen us play knows that's our best effort of the season to date. And it was by far our best defensive effort of the season."
"In the first half, after the first couple of possessions, we really made it difficult (on defense). We didn't give up a lot of second-chance points."
On Mohomed Camara:
"Mohomed did a nice job defensively. He made it diffult for Vounang to get a lot of easy looks.
On The Rivalry:
"(Entering tonight), the last four games have been down to the last two minutes or last minute with both teams having a chance to win. If we played again tomorrow, it might be that way again. With Gay out in the second half, as a first or second option, it really allowed us to concentrate on our defense."
On Chris Manker:
"Chris can shoot the ball. Chris and John Sharper, in practice, shoot it outstanding. Chris is like all of us. He's a different player when he feels good about himself. He's playing with such confidence right now that I feel proud of him."
SDSU Player Quotes:
Marcus Slaughter:
On the game:
"I knew it was going to be a good game. I did not know it was going to be like this. Our defense was tremendous today. We made them turn the ball over and we made them do things they didn't want to do. We won this game because of our defense. That's the bottom line."
Brandon Heath:
On the game:
"The credit goes to our coaching staff. They had the feeling and they knew what they were doing to a tee. We did what our coaches asked us to do and that was the turnout on defense."
On the rivalry:
"The rivalry will always be there. But we are going to take this game and run with it this year. They'll be back next year and we'll have to come back and try to do same thing."
Chris Manker
On the rivalry:
"It's (rivalry) always going to be there and the games are always going to be close. We definitely stepped up as a team tonight."
San Diego Head Coach Brad Holland:
On San Diego State:
"They did a good job on transition and rebounding. They got too many easy baskets and fast points for us to be in the game tonight. We have to be a team and set the defense. With the defense set, we're solid, but we weren't good in transition tonight, from offense to defense. San Diego State has some long-armed athletes."
On the game:
"We were undermanned. Our guys played extremely hard. We weren't effective. We weren't good enough in transition and on the boards. But for right now we have to let it go. We can't let it discourage us or let it linger in our minds. We have a two-game road trip coming up and for right now, that is what we have to focus on."
On Brandon Gay's injury:
"When he is in the game, he puts in his 15-20 points, but apparently he got stepped on in the head. I'm not sure because I did not see the whole play. He was dizzy and didn't have the opportunity to return, so we were undermanned coming into the second half."
