SAN DIEGO -

The San Diego State swimming and diving team defeated the Air Force Academy, 186-113, Wednesday afternoon at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. The win improved the Aztecs' record to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West Conference. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 11-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference.

SDSU started off the meet slow, losing the first two events. But thanks to three wins by junior Emily Schmied and a pair of victories turned in by senior Jennifer Arrow and sophomore Caitlin Friedhoff, the Aztecs were able to win 11 of the final 14 events to wrap-up the meet.

Schmied took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.81. Seven events later, with a mark of 59.97, Schmied edged teammate Stella Karoly in the 100 butterfly to claim her second first place finish. Her third victory came in the 200 individual medley when she finished with a time of 2:11.60.

Arrow was the top swimmer in the 100 breaststroke event (1:08.60) and beat out teammate Lindsay Hnyda to win the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.88.

After winning the 100 freestyle event in the conference opener against Utah, Friedhoff turned in another strong performance as she won the 100 free in 53.93 for the second consecutive time. In addition, the sophomore took first in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:56.87.

In the three-meter diving competition, Kathleen Heuring took first with a total score of 210.08. The win was the freshman's third of the season.

In the one-meter event, freshman Joelle Felton tallied 212.70 points to take first, just ahead of Air Force's Danielle Dowds (211.88).
