SAN DIEGO (AP) - Chris Manker scored a career-high 23 points as San Diego State had a tougher than expected time before finally beating UC San Diego 86-51 on Saturday night.
The Aztecs (2-1) struggled as they failed to take a double-digit lead until almost four minutes into the second half. UC San Diego (1-2), an NCAA Division II school, kept it close until near the midway mark of the half when the Aztecs steadily pulled away.
The seven-foot Manker dominated inside against the smaller Tritons, whose tallest player is 6-7. Manker made 9 of 13 field goals, none farther than 5 feet from the basket, and was 5-for-5 from the line.
The Aztecs have won all seven games they've played against UC San Diego and have won the last six by an average of 33.8 points per game.
Marcus Slaughter added 20 points for San Diego State, which shot 60.4 percent from the floor and forced 27 turnovers.
Parker Berling scored 16 points and had a game-high six rebounds to lead UC San Diego.
