San Diego State Drops Season Opener to UC Santa Barbara

u With the loss, the Aztecs dropped just their second season opening game under the direction of Steve Fisher.

u Tonight marked the first time the Gauchos have won in America's Finest City since a 76-73 victory on Feb. 19, 1976.

u San Diego State is now 11-2 in its last 13 games against teams from the state of California.

u Tonight's attendance of 6,191 is the largest opening night crowd and the 25th-largest in Cox Arena history.

Aztec Team Notes

u Tonight was the Aztecs' third consecutive overtime game against one team, a school record.

u The last time these two schools hooked up, Tony Bland hit a shot with 1.9 seconds left to push the game into overtime in the 2003 postseason NIT (March 19, 2003), a game the Aztecs won 67-62.

u The last time San Diego State hit a game-tying shot to send the game into overtime was Jan. 24, 2004 when Brandon Heath hit a three-pointer with six seconds left to push the game into a second overtime at Colorado State.

u SDSU dished out seven assists on 11 made field goals in the first half.

u With his 17 points, Chris Manker set a new career high. His previous high of 14 came at Wyoming (Jan. 26, 2004) when he went 5-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from the land of plenty.
