SAN DIEGO - In the first round of doubles qualifying at the ICY HOT ITA All-American Tournament, the duo of senior Armando Carrascosa and junior Daniel Jung defeated Georgia Tech's Jose Murguruza and Marko Rajevac, 8-4.

The win was the lone victory of the day as the Aztecs lost two other doubles matches and three singles events. The team of 2004 Mountain West Conference freshman of the year Markus Dickhardt and junior Dontia Haynes lost to the United States Tennis Association's Ricardo Almeida and Dennis Andrade by a final score of 8-3. Christian Groh and Benedikt Stronk lost an 8-6 decision to Ohio State's Drew Eberly and Dennis Mertens.

As for singles play, the Aztecs struggled, losing all three matches in straight sets. Jung lost to Kentucky's Tigran Matirosyan, 6-2, 6-2, and his doubles partner, Carrascosa, was beaten by Washington's Christoph Palmanshefer (6-4, 6-4). Dickhardt did not fair well either as he lost by a score of, 6-4, 6-3.

Second round play of qualifying resumes Tuesday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., when Carrascosa and Jung take on Florida's Janne Holmia and Greg Oullette at 2 p.m. EST.
