MALIBU, Calif. - Armando Carrascosa's run toward the Wilson/ITA Regional Tennis Championship title fell short Monday afternoon at Pepperdine University as he lost to UCLA's Ben Kohlloeffel, 6-1, 6-1.
In both sets, Carrascosa won the first game, but Kohlloeffel ran off six consecutive games in each set to win the match.
The road to the championship final was fairly easy as Carrascosa breezed through four matches, losing a total of seven games. In the semifinals, Carrascosa and his opponent Scott Doerner (Pepperdine), engaged in a three-hour match that saw Carrascosa win 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(8-6). In the end, Kohlloeffel proved to be too much for the Aztec as the match was completed in one hour.
The tournament concludes the Aztecs fall portion of its schedule. SDSU will be in action next on Jan. 14-17 at the Sherwood Invitational.
