SAN DIEGO - Armando Carrascosa upset the tournament's No. 3 seeded player in Roger Matalonga of the University of Arizona, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held at Pepperdine University on Saturday.
With the victory, Carrascosa has recorded four wins and only lost a total of seven games. On Sunday, Carrascosa will face the host school's Scott Doerner, who earned himself a date with the Aztec by defeating the tournament's No. 5 seed from USC, Johan Berg.
Other Aztecs in action Saturday included Dontia Haynes losing to Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA, 6-2, 6-4, and the doubles team of Christian Groh and Benedikt Stronk going down against Pepperdine's Pedro Rico and Doerner, 8-0.
The semifinal round of the second leg of the college grand slam begins Sunday at noon in Malibu, Calif.
