SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team tied Oklahoma, 0-0, in double overtime, in the first game of the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday night. The Aztecs (2-3-2) and Sooners (3-1-3) each had 15 shots for the game where temperatures reached 103 degrees on the field.
After a tight first half, Oklahoma outshot the Aztecs, 9-7, in the second session. SDSU outshot the Sooners, 3-1, in overtime.
Senior goalkeeper Sophia Perez played all 110 minutes and made five saves for SDSU. Perez (2-2-2), who earned her second consecutive shutout and third of the season, has a 0.47 goals against average and a 91.2 save percentage in 577:24 of action this season.
Senior Shannon McBride, junior Alexis Solovij and freshman Tiphanie Elliott had three shots apiece to lead the Aztec offensive attack. Junior Amanda Swiader and freshman Lisa Nielsen each had two shots, while senior Jessica Korpela and sophomore Jen Klunder contributed one shot apiece.
SDSU will continue play in the Sun Devil Invitational against Dartmouth at 10 a.m. Sunday (MST). Arizona State played host to the Big Green on Friday night in the nightcap after the Aztec game.
