SAN DIEGO -

San Diego State junior running back Michael Franklin is the goaztecs.com's player of the week after his performance in Saturday night's season opener. He led the Aztecs to a 38-21 win over Idaho State in front of a school-record 57,216. Franklin finished the game with 12 rushes for 101 yards, one touchdown and six receptions for 84 yards.

Franklin has rushed for 100 or more yards in each of the last three games dating back to last season. On the opening play of the game he ran 67 yards for a touchdown. His run was the longest by an SDSU player since Larry Ned ran for 77 yards at Utah on Oct. 23, 1999. The 67-yard run is the longest of Franklin's career, topping his previous high of 55 yards in 2002, at Hawai'i.

The official website for San Diego State Athletics is goaztecs.com. Fans were given the option to choose who they thought was the player of the game. The choices included: running back Michael Franklin, linebacker Heath Farwell, wide receiver Robert Ortiz and quarterback Matt Dlugolecki.

The Aztecs (1-0) will return to action, Sept. 18 when they play at Michigan (1-0). The game will be televised on ESPN at 9:00 a.m. PT.
