Leslie Miller-Russell Takes 12th In The Javelin At The U.S. Olympic Trials

July 11, 2004

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Former Aztec All-American Leslie Miller-Russell placed 12th overall in the javelin Sunday at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Sacramento, Calif. Miller-Russell's best throw of the day was 134-05 in an event easily won by American record-holder Kim Kreiner (182-07) at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.

Miller-Russell, who earned All-America accolades in the heptathlon in 2003, was unable to get close to her preliminary round throw of 159-10, which was the 12th-best performance on Friday evening. The Humble, Texas, native had entered the meet as the ninth seed with a career best of 165-4, despite not concentrating on the event until earlier this year.

The 2004 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials continue Monday, as four-time SDSU All-American Tonette Dyer makes her debut in the 400-meter quarterfinals and Olympian Marla Runyan competes in the finals of the 5,000 meters.
