Aztecs Finish Fifth At Border Olympics

LAREDO, Tex. - San Diego State finished in fifth at five-over 869 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. The Aztecs shot a final round 296 on Saturday after opening with rounds of 287 and 286 on Friday. SDSU was led by junior Aaron Choi who placed seventh at four-under par 212, his best score and result of the season. SMU won the 17-team event by shooting 14-under par 852 to earn a seven stroke win over Baylor.

Choi shot a final round one-under 71 to jump up six spots on Saturday. The 212 ties the second-lowest 54-hole score in Choi's three year career. In addition, his first round 68 was also his lowest score of the season and his second-best ever.

Freshman Chris Cole, playing in his third SDSU tournament, shot a final round 72 to finish at 219 and a 23rd place finish. It is Cole's best score and result at SDSU after shooting a career low 70 in Friday's second round.

Fellow freshman Aaron Goldberg placed 29th after shooting 220. Goldberg opened with rounds of 71 and 72 before shooting 77 on Saturday. Senior Mark Warman placed 37th as he posted a 221.

The Aztecs get right back to action next week as they play at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on April 9-10.
