SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Leslie St. Pierre set two personal bests at the 46th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
St. Pierre placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 150 feet and recorded a throw of 148 feet, 6 inches in the hammer. The hammer distance was the best by an Aztec athlete this season and both figures were personal bests for the San Diego native.
Another highlight for the Aztecs on the first day of the prestigious event was Marie Nilsson's third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Nilsson, a junior from Kil, Sweden, crossed the line in 10:30.52. The time was seven seconds off her school record NCAA regional qualifying time set earlier this season.
The meet continues tomorrow at Mt. San Antonio Junior College with the middle distance events taking center stage. The event concludes on Sunday.
