Aztecs Post Second Half Shutout For 8-3 Victory Over San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Diego State turned up the defense in the second half to run away with an 8-3 victory at San Jose State on Sunday. The Aztecs led 4-3 at halftime, but used a 4-0 advantage in the second half to cruise to the win. SDSU improves to 13-3 on the year and 3-1 in MPSF action.

The win marked the seventh time this season SDSU has held its opponent to three goals or less. Senior Sara Daseler led the SDSU defense in the cage making 10 saves. It was the second time in three games played Daseler has recorded at least 10 saves for SDSU.

Seniors Sandy Onweller and Holly Hartzell led the offense scoring three goals apiece. The two captains also lead the team in scoring on the season with 28 and 26 goals, respectively. Rachel Serna and Chelsy Smith added the final two tallies.

The Aztecs will have their biggest homestand of the season next weekend with home contests on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. SDSU opens play with MPSF rival, No. 6 California on Friday, Mar. 12 at 3:00 p.m. The Aztecs entertain Pacific on Saturday at noon in another conference contest before closing out the action with two games on Sunday against No. 4 Long Beach State at noon and non-conference foe, Princeton at 4:00 p.m.
