Oklahoma City - For the second year in a row, the San Diego State women's swimming and diving team finished eighth at the annual Mountain West Conference Championships held this week at Oklahoma City Community College. The Aztecs totaled 231.50 points over the four-day meet which was won by Brigham Young with 725 points.
Senior distance freestyle specialist Megan Storey turned in SDSU's best individual performance of the meet in the final individual event on Saturday as she finished third in the 1,650 free. Her time of 16:51.26 improved her previous season best time by almost 30 seconds. Hannah Ryan swam a personal season-best 17:24.71 to finish second in the 'B' Final (10th overall).
SDSU's other top finishes on the day came in the 200 butterfly where sophomore Emily Schmied (2:06.63) and freshman Stella Karoly (2:06.55) both swam season bests in the prelims. In the 'B' Final, Schmied was third and Karoly fourth as they earned points for placing 11th and 12th overall respectively.
San Diego State finished the championships with a sixth-place in the 400 freestyle relay. In that race, the foursome of Ryan, Schmied, Karoly and Caitlin Friedhoff swam a 3:34.80 to tie the team's best mark of the season.
