Swimmers Remain In Eighth Place At MWC Championships

Oklahoma City - The San Diego State women's swimming and diving team remained in eighth place after three days of competition at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being contests at Oklahoma City Community College. The Aztecs have accumulated 157.70 points as Brigham Young continued to hold the lead with 497 points.

Senior Hannah Ryan turned in SDSU's top finish of the meet thus far when she took eighth place in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.75.

A trio of Aztecs garnered team points by turning in personal season bests in their events. Sophomore Emily Schmied went 4:32.28 in the 400 individual medley to finish second in the 'B' Final (10th overall). In addition, Jennifer Arrow and Jennifer Graham finished third and fifth respectively in the 'B' Final of the 100 breaststroke. Arrow turned in a time of 1:05.75 while Graham went 1:06.12, both in the prelims.

The SDSU 400mdley relay team also turned in its best time of the season as the foursome of Adriana Quirke, Jennifer Arrow, Emily Schmied and Caitlin Friedhoff went 3:56.71 to finish sixth.

The 2004 MWC Championships wind up on Saturday with the final five events beginning at 10:00 a.m. (CST).
