Swimmers Defeat Cal Poly, 205-95, In Season's Final Dual Meet

San Luis Obispo - San Diego State took first place in 11 of 16 events, including 1-2-3 finishes in four races, en route to a 205-95 win over Cal Poly at Mott Pool in San Luis Obispo Saturday afternoon. The victory enabled the Aztecs to complete their 2003-04 dual meet season with a record of 8-5. Their win total is the second-best in 10 seasons under head coach Dena Deardurff Schmidt.

SDSU swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley events. In addition, Divers Lindsey Minnich and Shannon Colvin went 1-2 in the diving, with Minnich winning the 3-meter and Colvin the 1-meter.

Senior Hannah Ryan was SDSU's lone individual double winner on the day, taking first in both the 200 free (1:55.05) and 500 free (5:07.30).

San Diego State's other first-place finishes included Megan Storey in the 1,000 free (10:20.99), Jennifer Graham in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.07), Sarah Davis in the 20 backstroke (2:10.63), Jennifer Arrow in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.51) and Emily Schmied in the 40 individual medley (4:34.77).

In addition, four SDSU swimmers established season bests in their respective events: Amy Osback (50 free-25.32, 100 free-54.62 and 100 butterfly-1:00.34), Caitlin Friedhoff (200 free-1:55.66), Storey (200 buterfly-2:07.80) and Sylvia DelMoral (200 backstroke-2:12.55).

The Aztecs will now have three weeks to prepare for the 2004 Mountain West Conference Championships to be held in Oklahoma City, Feb 18-21.
