Malibu, Calif. - Eight different San Diego State swimmers captured first place finishes in 10 individual events and both relay teams won their events as the Aztec defeated Pepperdine, 196-191, in Malibu Saturday afternoon. The win improved SDSU's season mark to 7-5 as they surpassed their victory total of last season (six) with one dual meet remaining.

On the way to the victory, the Aztecs swept three events including the 100 and 200 freestyle, 100 and 200 breaststroke, and the 400 individual medley.

A pair of SDSU swimmers led the way by capturing first place in a pair of individual events. Freshman Caitlin Friedhoff won both the 50 (25.00) and 100 (53.76) freestyle while senior Jill Karacozoff took top honors in the 100 (1:07.55) and 200 (2:24.56) breaststroke.

Other first place finishes for San Diego State were turned in by Hannah Ryan in the 1,000 free (10:21.88), Megan Storey in the 200 free (1:55.27), Sylvia DelMoral in the 100 back (1:00.73), Sarah Davis in the 200 back (2:10.19), Emily Parker in the 500 free (5:06.31), and Stella Karoly in the 400 individual medley (4:36.42). With the exception of Davis, each of those events represents a personal season-best time.

San Diego State concludes its 2003-04 dual meet schedule when it travels to San Luis Obispo this Saturday (Jan.31) to take in Cal Poly beginning at 1:00 p.m. Following that meet, the Aztecs will use the next three weeks to prepare for the Mountain West Conference championships to be held in Oklahoma City Feb. 18-21.
