Swimmers Defeat Loyola Marymount, 140.5-65.5

Los Angeles - The San Diego State swim opened its weekend with a convincing 140.5-65.5 victory over Loyola Marymount at the Lions' Burns Aquatic Center. With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 6-5 in dual meet action on the year as they matched their win total of a year ago with two meets remaining.

After opening the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, SDSU exerted its authority with 1-2-3 finishes I n each of the next two events.

Freshman Emily Parker led an Aztec sweep in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:27.35. Her mark in that event is the third-best ever for an SDSU swimmer. Senior Megan Storey (10:32.13) and sophomore Emily Schmied (10:46.15) finished second and third respectively.

SDSU then took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle with Hannah Ryan capturing top honors in 1:54.27. Right behind her were teammates Adriana Quirke (1:56.85) and Stephanie Chambers (2:00.62).

Ryan was one of three double winners on the afternoon for San Diego State as she took first in the 50 freestyle (5:08.28). Other Aztecs who won twice were Caitlin Friedhoff (50 and 100 freestyle) and Stella Karoly (200 individual medley and 100 butterfly). Karoly times in her two victories (2:09.80 in the 200 IM and 58.55 in the 100 fly) both represented season bests for the freshman from Hawai'i.

Several Aztecs set season personal bests during the met including Davis in the 100 free (55.66), Adriana Quirke in the 20 free (1:56.85), Stephanie Chambers (5:18.07) and Amy Van Dyke (5:21.75) in the 500 free, and Jennifer Graham (59.90) and Amy Osback (1:01.29) in the 100 fly.

The Aztecs continues dual meet action on Saturday (Jan. 24) when they visit Pepperdine at noon.
