Swimmers Spilt Double Dual Meet In Colorado

Fort Collins, Colo. - San Diego State concluded the Mountain West Conference portion of its 2003-04 schedule by splitting a double dual meet with Air Force and Colorado State in Fort Collins Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs defeated Air Force, 161-137, and fell to CSU, 167-133. SDSU's record now stands at 3-4 with all seven dual meets coming against league opponents.

The Aztecs got out of the gate quickly, winning three of the first four events. Megan Storey recoded the team's first win with a first-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 10:25.58. That was followed by Hannah Ryan's victory in the 200 freestyle (1:54.50) and Adriana Quirke's win in the 100 backstroke (59.57).

Ryan picked up another first-place for SDSU when she took the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:08.22. She also swam the opening leg on SDSU's winning 400 freestyle relay team that turned in a team season-best 3:34.99. Other member of that quartet includes Stephanie Chambers, Quirke and Caitlin Friedhoff.

Friedhoff continues to be one of the MWC's top sprint freestylists as she captured the 50 free in a time of 24.68. In addition, Emily Schmied won the 200 individual medley in 2:12.49.

Up next for San Diego State is a dual meet at home against northern Arizona next Saturday (Dec. 13). Action gets underway at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center Pool at noon.
