Swimmers Defeat Northern Arizona 165-123

San Diego - San Diego State got out to a quick start and defeated Northern Arizona, 165-123, in a dual meet at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center Pool Saturday afternoon. The win allowed the Aztecs to even their dual meet record at 4-4 while the Lumberjacks fell to 2-2.

SDSU jumped out to an early lead as it won the first four events of the day. The foursome of Adriana Quirke, Jennifer Graham, Emily Schmied and Caitlin Friedhoff won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:50 .72 to get things started for the Aztecs.

Megan Storey then took top honors in the 1,000 freestyle (10:20.97) and was followed by SDSU first-place finishes by Hannah Ryan in the 200 freestyle (1:52.34) and Quirke in the 100 backstroke (1:00.16).

After NAU won the 100 breaststroke, San Diego State swept the top three spots in the 200 butterfly. Storey took first in that event (2:09.39) with Schmied (2:09.65) and Stella Karoly (2:10.75) finishing second and third respectively. That was followed by a one-two placing in the 50 freestyle by Friedhoff (24.92) and Ryan (25.08)

In addition to Megan Storey, Hannah Ryan was also a double winner for SDSU in the individual events, taking the 500 free with a mark of 5:02.45.

The Aztecs completed their afternoon by winning the 400 freestyle relay the foursome of Ryan, Stephanie Chambers, Quirke and Friedhoff turning in a season team-best time of 3:34.80.

Up next for San Diego State is the annual UCI Invitational at Irvine, Calif. On Jan. 3-4. The team's next dual meet competition comes on Jan. 9 when it will travel to Honolulu to meet the University of Hawai'i.
