Swimmers Defeat New Mexico 200-100

San Diego - San Diego State won 11 of 12 individual swimming events as it recorded its first dual meet win of the season with a 200-100 victory over New Mexico at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center Saturday afternoon. SDSU's record now stands at 1-2 overall as well as in conference action.

The Aztecs were led by a quartet of double winners in seniors Hannah Ryan and Megan Storey plus freshmen Caitlin Friedhoff and Adriana Quirke.

Ryan began her day win a victory in the 200 freestyle in a team season-best time of 1:53.16. She then took second in the 50 freestyle, setting a career best time of 24.97. She then proceeded to win the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:59.41. Her time in the 500 free was also a career best and was the fourth-fastest mark in that event in SDSU history. Ryan capped off her day as a member of the 200 medley relay team that won the meet's final event.

Friedhoff, who is quickly becoming one of SDSU's top sprint freestyle swimmers, won both the 50 (24.95) and 100 freestyle (53.84). In three dual meets this fall, she has won the 100 in each meet and had two firsts and a second in the 50.

Quirke, meanwhile, was victorious in both the 100 back (59.53) and 200 back (2:10.04), recording personal season best marks in both events,

The Aztecs trailed only briefly at the start of the meet as UNM took first and second in the opening event, the 200 medley relay. Megan Storey then won the 1,000 free (10:23.10) and Ryan followed with her victory in the 200 free, and SDSU was on its way. Storey also picked up a first-place in the 200 butterfly (2:08.67) and second in the 200 backstroke (2:10.56).

Other event winners for San Diego State included Jennifer Graham in the 1-00 breast (1:07.45), Jennifer Arrow in the 200 breast (2:24.00) and Stella Karoly in the 100 butterfly (59.55).

Up next for the Aztecs will be a double dual meet with MWC foes UNLV and Wyoming next Saturday, Nov. 22. Action is set to get underway at noon at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center Pool.
