Point Loma Nazarene defeated San Diego State in a fall softball game Saturday afternoon, 4-3. The game was scheduled for 14 innings.
The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a line-drive double to left center by Deanna Richards, scoring Kathleen Galbraith. Point Loma Nazarene, a NAIA power, scored three runs in the top of the 11th and one more in the 12th to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 14th inning.
Jacque Vaca drove in two runs with an one-out double past first base and down the right field line to cut the Sea Lion lead to 4-3, but the Aztecs were unable to score the tying run.
San Diego State hosts the alumni in their final fall game next Saturday with action beginning at 11 a.m. A hitting clinic for ages 10-12 takes place prior to the game, beginning at 8 a.m. For more information about the hitting clinic, contact assistant coach Kelly Howard at 619-594-5853 or at khoward@mail.sdsu.edu. The Aztecs begin the 2004 season at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 with a road double-header against Point Loma Nazarene. The Sea Lions have gone 107-20 over the past two seasons, which includes two trips to the NAIA Softball National Championships, where they finished second in 2002 and fifth in 2003.
