SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Felix Hardt, seeded ninth, upset sixth-seeded Johan Berg of USC, 6-4, 6-2, on Friday at the ITA Men's Western Regional Championship on Thursday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
With the victory in the round of 16, Hardt advances to Saturday's quarterfinals against the tournament's top-seed, Tobias Clemens of UCLA.
Hardt and Daniel Jung, seeded fifth in the doubles bracket, lost in the quarterfinal round of the championship on Friday. After defeating Nic Beuque and Robbie Blair of San Diego, 8-2, in the round of 16, the Aztec pair was eliminated by Fresno State's Alex Krohn and Stefan Suta, 8-5.
The championships continue tomorrow.
