San Diego State Softball No. 33 In Final RPI

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team finished No. 33 out of the 262 NCAA Division I softball teams in the final 2003 RPI ratings. The ranking was the highest in the Mountain West Conference and the sixth highest in the softball-rich state of California.

San Diego State finished the season 39-21, 12-3 in MWC play. The Aztecs won their second consecutive Mountain West Conference regular-season title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years. SDSU closed out the season with a 39-21 (.650) record, the best winning percentage in program history.

National champion UCLA topped off the rankings at No. 1. Arizona (2nd), Texas (3rd), Washington (4th) and California (5th) followed. Eleven schools from California finished in the top 100.

The other MWC softball teams are Colorado State (61st), Brigham Young (71st), Utah (120th), New Mexico (153rd) and UNLV (161st).
