PROVO - The San Diego State men's tennis team cruised to its second straight Mountain West Conference Tournament championship Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 demolishing of New Mexico in the championship match held at Brigham Young University.
With the win, the Aztecs will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons.
San Diego State, the top seed in the event, won a hard-fought doubles point to open play. All three doubles matches between the two teams were tight with the Aztecs posting 8-5 and 8-6 wins.
In the deciding singles play, the Lobos were not as competitive. San Diego State did not drop a set and lost a total of just eight games in the six sets that were completed before the 30th-ranked Aztecs clinched the victory.
Posting wins for San Diego State were No. 3 Felix Hardt, No. 4 Daniel Jung and No. 6 Gabe Coren.
