Track and Field Heads To The 45th Annual Mt. SAC Relays

SAN DIEGO - Coming off a victory at last weekend's Cal-Nevada championships, the San Diego State track and field squad heads to the prestigious 45th Annual Mt. SAC Relays, April 16-19, in Walnut, Calif. The Aztecs will be joined by almost 50 other colleges and universities from around the nation, in addition to competitors from 11 different foreign countries.

The meet began Wednesday, with the heptathlon hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. SDSU's Shanon Meyer (Hesperia, Calif.) and Leslie Miller (Humble, Texas) are in ninth and 10th respectively in the 11-participant field after four events. Meyer finished day one of two with 2,989 points, highlighted by the second-fastest time of 24.79 in the 200 meters. Miller is right behind her teammate with 2,950 points, including a season-best effort of 14.16 in the 100-meter hurdles.

Miller and Meyer will finish out competition Thursday with the final three events - the long jump, the javelin throw and the 800 meters.

Also on Thursday, both senior Alicia Stewart (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and freshman Christal Cuadra (Honolulu, Hawaii) will compete in the 5,000-meter run, beginning at 4:45 p.m., back at Mt. San Antonio College.

One day later, freshman Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) and sophomore Alisha Lasswell (Kilbride, Ont.) are entered in the high jump, while junior Candace Hill (San Diego, Calif.) is seeded sixth in a field of 29 in the women's discus, starting at 5:30 p.m. The Aztecs have also entered four runners in both the 400 and 800 and three in the 1,500-meter race on Friday.

SDSU wraps up competition Saturday with 12 participants in seven events and both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
