Aztec Softball Plays Host To St. John's Tuesday

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's softball team (12-8) takes on St. John's University Tuesday at 3 p.m. at SDSU Field. The game marks the start of a three-week homestand in which the Aztecs will host the SDSU Tournament, Aztec Invitational and the University of Nevada between March 4-March 18.

San Diego State returned home after traveling to the Hillenbrand Invitational at Arizona last weekend. The Aztecs went 3-5 at the tournament, shutting out Northern Iowa (7-0), New Mexico State (8-0) and the Dutch national team (8-0), before falling twice to the No. 2 Wildcats (11-0, 6-0). Junior first baseman Jacque Vaca was 7-for-12 (.583) on the weekend and drove in two runs, while junior second baseman Joann Figueroa got six hits in her 11 at-bats (.545).

St. John's is 6-8 on the season, earning a 2-6 record at the Loyola Marymount Tournament last weekend. The Red Storm are led by freshman third baseman Megan Oliver, who is batting .297, and San Diego native Allina Sainz, who has a team-high five RBI.

The Aztecs host their second tournament of the season when they welcome Harvard, Long Beach State, Northern Iowa and San Diego for the SDSU Tournament March 7-9. The tournament runs from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Sunday.
