Swimmers Defeat Fresno State For Fourth Straight Win

Fresno - Paced by wins in the last five swimming events of the meet, San Diego State outlasted Fresno State 160-138 Saturday at the Central Unified Aquatics Complex. SDSU recorded victories in the 200 Breast, 50 Free, 100 Fly, 400 IM and 400 Free Relay to secure the victory.

The Aztecs improved to 6-8 on the year while the Bulldogs fell to 6-4-1.

After Fresno State opened the meet by winning the 200 Medley Relay, the Aztecs won four of the next five. However, the Bulldogs answered by placing first in four straight events including two victories.

San Diego State then made its final push to secure the victory. SDSU's Hannah Ryan paced the field in the 500 Free with a time of 5:06.52. The Aztecs then swept the top three spots in the 100 Fly as Emily Schmied led the event with a time of 58.78.

San Diego State's Erin Kilpatrick took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.94 and the Aztecs closed out the meet by winning the 400 Free Relay in 3:35.94.

Emily Schmied and Jill Karacozoff led the Aztecs with two individual first place finishes. Overall, recorded 28 top-three finishes for the meet.

This was SDSU's final dual meet of the season as they now have three weeks to prepare for the 2003 Mountain West Conference Championships. That event will take place Feb. 19-22 in Oklahoma City.
