Malibu, Calif. - Megan Storey and Jill Karacozoff won two events each and the Aztecs swept a total of six events en route to a 186-112 victory over Pepperdine in Malibu Saturday afternoon. The win was the second straight for the Aztecs and saw them improve their 2003 dual meet record to 4-8.
Karacozoff was victorious in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with times of 1:05. 73 and 2:23 .43 respectively. Storey, SDSU's distance specialist, took home first-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (5:08.95) and 1,000 freestyle (10:L28.77). Karacozoff's time in the 100 breast established both a personal and team season best for the Aztecs.
San Diego State swimmers captured the top three places in six of the meet's 16 events with six different swimmers winning those events. In addition to sweeps in both of the distance freestyles, Aztec swimmers dominated the 200 backstroke (1st-Melissa Webb, 2:09.79), 200 freestyle (1st-Hannah Ryan, 1:55.80), 100 freestyle (1st-Amy Osback, 53.66), and 200 butterfly (1st-Erin Kilpatrick, 2:10.06). Osback's time in the 100 freestyle marked a season best for the freshman.
San Diego State concludes its dual meet season on the road next weekend prior to the Mountain West Conference Championships. On Friday (Jan. 31) the Aztecs will face Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 1:00 p.m. The following day (Saturday, Feb. 1), they will continue north and take on Fresno State at noon.
