SDSU Women's Tennis Hosts Long Beach State in Season Opener

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team opens its spring season Saturday at noon at the SDSU Tennis Courts. The Aztecs, who are ranked No. 28 in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis preseason poll, are set to take on the 49ers of No. 72-ranked Long Beach State.

Head coach Peter Mattera returns for his 10th year at the helm of the women's program, while five letterwinners, including No. 66 Silvia Tornier, return from last year's squad that advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament. SDSU finished the 2002 season ranked 30th in the nation.

San Diego State's next match is slated for Saturday, Feb. 1, when it squares off against California at the SDSU Tennis Courts at noon. The Aztecs' first road match is Saturday, Feb. 15, against UC Irvine.
