Swimmers Fall To Wymoing In Dual Meet Action

Laramie, Wyo. - The San Diego State swim team concluded its 2002 Mountain West Conference campaign with a 170-128 loss to Wyoming in Laramie Saturday afternoon. Six individual SDSU swimmers won their respective events, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Cowgirls' depth. The loss dropped the Aztecs' season record to 2-6, and they finish their league season with a 1-6 mark to finish in seventh place.

Three Aztecs recorded a first and second during Saturday's meet. Senior Erin Kilpatrick took top honors in the 200 butterfly (2:11.96) and finished second in the 400 individual medley (4:49.66). Teammate Jill Karacozoff excelled in her specialty, winning the 100 breaststroke (1:09.13) and taking second in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.18).

In addition, freshman Emliy Schmied continued her fine season with a first place in the 100 butterfly (59.05) and a second in the 100 freestyle (54.94). She was also a member of the SDSU relay quartet that took second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.41).

Other Aztecs recording g first-place finishes included Megan Storey in the 1000 freestyle (10:58.46), Aletta Haff in the 100 backstroke (1:01.13) and Melissa Webb in the 500 freestyle (5:18.31).

The Aztecs will have some time off as they prepare for the annual Speedo Cup Invitational to be held in Long Beach, Calif., Dec. 5-7. It will be the team's lone meet until January.
