SAN DIEGO - Auburn's Rameez Junaid, the 12th-seed, defeated San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger 6-3, 6-4 on Friday in the third round of the 2002 Icy Hot ITA Men's All-American Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Maiberger, the grand-slam tournament's fifth-seed, won his second-round match earlier in the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Minnesota's Alex Zharinov. The Aztec senior won his first two singles matches in straight sets before losing in the round of 16.
In doubles action late Thursday evening, second-seeded Maiberger and Ryan Redondo were upset by Lester Cook and Ante Matijevic of Texas A&M, 9-8 (3).
