FRESNO, Calif. - With junior Mark Warman leading the way, the San Diego State men's golf team shares the second-round lead at the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic. Propelled by a season-best 288 in the second round, the Aztecs, the top-ranked team in the field by Golfstat at No. 9, are tied for the 36-hole lead with UTEP.
Warman holds a share of the lead after shooting 68-71-139 for his best two rounds of the young season. Warman, a runner-up in three events last spring, is looking for his first career title. He is currently tied with Golfweek's No. 2-ranked golfer, Fresno State's Nick Watney, the defending champion at his school's home event.
Senior Charlie Smith, playing in his first event of the year, also finished the first 36 holes among the top 10 individuals. Smith, playing as an individual, is tied for seventh after shooting 73-70-143.
Two teams, BYU and Colorado State, were unable to complete the second due to darkness. Those teams will finish second-round play tomorrow morning at the point of interruption before the third and final round will begin.
