BATON ROUGE, La. - San Diego State junior Leslie Miller recorded top-10 performances in three of four events on Wednesday, the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event is being held at Bernie Moore Stadium on the Louisiana State campus.
Miller's 3,116 points puts her in 16th place in the seven-event contest. The junior's highest finish came in the form of a sixth-place clocking of 14.19 in the 100-meter hurdles. She also placed eight in the 200 meters (25.30) and 10th in the shot put (37-8.50). She cleared 5-1.00, good for 17th place, in the high jump.
Also on Wednesday, SDSU freshman Shayla Balentine placed 17th in the pole vault, clearing 12-3.50 (3.75m).
The heptathlon competition concludes on Thursday with competition in the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters. Aztec sprinter Tonette Dyer will compete in the qualifying round of the 400 meters on Thursday night.
